Half-Year Freelancer Report: Most Desired Skills and Freelance Capitals

Berlin, August 13, 2015. twago, Europe’s leading freelance marketplace, published mid-year figures on the most desired skills of IT professionals as well as the freelance capitals of Europe. At the top of the podium are the web languages ​​PHP, Java and CSS – dominating the first half of 2015. Once again, the European freelance capital is Berlin, followed by Madrid and Barcelona.

Berlin, still the freelance capital of Europe

Compared to 2014, the reigning European freelancer capital Berlin is down 6 percent, but remains in the top spot. No European city has so many freelancers as the German metropolis. Madrid has seen an increase of 3 per cent, as well as Barcelona, ​​which has grown rapidly with 15 percent. In 14th place overall, Leipzig’s freelance community grew by an incredible 46 percent.

On the other hand, there were double-digit losses (27 percent) for Seville, now in last place in the top 15. Web skills are in strong demand

The top 15 coveted Freelancer capabilities in the first half 2015 are dominated by developer languages and skills around the world wide web. These include freelancers in PHP, HTML, CSS and JAVA, but also graphic design skills such as photoshop and illustrator.

Expert knowledge in the area of ​​e-commerce, including the shop system Magento, are also high on the wish list of store owners migrating into the online world. As compared to 2014, Cocoa, Apple’s native API for Mac OS X, has seen an increase in demand of 26 percent, iPhone (+22 percent) and knowledge of the Microsoft programming language C # (+15 percent).
