Objective To facilitate connection of USB 2.0 instruments to a GPIB Bus. Similar to TEK-GPIB-488 but with addresses 1 to 15 Required parameters Unit must be GPIB addressable 1 to 15 Act as GPIB Talker and listener (not a controller) Take care of all GPIB handshaking and data transfer Transfer GPIB data addressed to the Unit to the USB Port ( with correct protocol) Transfer data from the USB Port onto the GPIB (Instruments using SCPI commands and format.) Pick up a 4 bit address from address switches on startup Proposed unit layout Pic18F2550 processor (has built in USB) RC4 & 5 for USB comms RB0 to 7. For GPIB data RA1 to 5 and RC0 to 2 for GPIB Control and handshake RC6 & 7 LED indication of sent and received data from USB port. RA0 (low) Enable load of GPIB address onto data lines 0 to 3 CD4043 and switches to load GPIB address onto RB0 to 3 Prototype for testing will be built on a StartUSB for PIC board (8MHz xtal) Power supplied from external PSU or PicKit2 Budgeting immediate Award of project June 2014 Project completion September 2014 Schematics and testing data available Testing can be carried out very simply from the USB port of a computer using any commercial GPIB -USB converter (eg. Prologix GPIB-USB) on the units GPIB port and a simple USB Data Acquisition Module such as the DLP-IO8-G on the units USB port. Data must be transferable in both directions.
